Project Overview

Enhanced the existing UW Alert system, which helps subscribers report dangerous crimes or hazards near the U-district, by developing an app that offers a more efficient and informative approach to crime prevention. The app improves communication by providing real-time updates and detailed information about potential threats, empowering users to take proactive measures to ensure their safety. Through enhanced user engagement and a focus on timely alerts, the app plays a critical role in creating a safer community for all, not limited to U-district.

Background
The existing UW Alert system is a subscription service that sends emails and text messages whenever there's police report near University of Washington.

Identified Problems:
- The alerts provide very brief descriptions of incidents and often lack sufficient details about suspects, making it difficult to identify or avoid potential threats.
- The system is one-way communication, with no platform for users to dicuss or share information.

Proposed Solutions:
Develop a UW Alert app that includes:
1. Homepage - displaying recent posts
2. Search page - allow users to enter a location and view the distance between reported crimes and their current position on a map.
3. Information page - listing all emergency contact numebrs.
4. Discussion board - users can upload posts, share information, post photos.
5. Profile page - users can select their campus (Seattle, Bothell, Tacoma)

Challenge:
Allowing users to share suspect photos introduces the risk of false accusations. To mitigate this, all photo attachments must be reviewed by the UW Alert team before being publicly released.

My Contribution:
- Leadership: Led the team, initiating and driving the project to enhance the UW Alert system from concept to execution.
- Design & Development: Structured and developed the overall Figma prototype, ensuring a user-friendly and functional design.
- Project Management: Managed group meetings, facilitated collabortion, and ensured all team members adhered to project timelines and deliverables.
- Strategic Planning: Identified key challenges and proposed solutions, aligning the team's efforts with project goals.
- Quality control: Oversaw the quality and coherence of the final deliverables, ensuring that the project met high standards and client expectations.
